Hi – I’m Patrick McGrath, the new ECM Product Marketing newsletter Manager for IIG, returning for my second call of duty with Documentum.  When I arrived back after being away from the company for 15 years, it was important for me to find out the very latest news with our portfolio of offerings.
When I discussed Webtop with our product newsletter team, I consistently heard a strong resolve that there are NO plans to discontinue or end-of-life the product .   This came as a huge relief to me, as I’m sure it will to many of the hundreds of customers who still depend on it to run their mission critical newsletter applications.  This will give Webtop users plenty of time to evaluate and plan their Documentum client strategy – staying on Webtop, or taking advantage of the newer clients D2 and xCP as appropriate.
Of course, in extending the support horizon with this release, we have also certified it with all of the latest supported environments (AppServers, newsletter Browsers, Client OS’, JRE’s, etc.).  We will also continue to certify Webtop with the latest versions of the Content Server as and when they get released, ensuring that customers are able to take advantage of the new and advanced features of the Documentum platform while continuing to use Webtop.
The Webtop 6.8 release is also JRE 8 certified.   I’m sure we are all concerned about product security, especially those created as a result of Java incompatibilities.   newsletter Our team is doing our best to ensure that the latest JRE releases will be supported as soon as they become available.
Many existing customers have also faced issues around email management, due to the unsupported MRE component newsletter required for the EMCMF format of email messages.    As Webtop continues to be supported, we have moved to the .msg format (from EMCMF) for the importing of email messages.  newsletter Of course both formats will still work for the search function while we only allow viewing of EMCMF objects through Webtop 6.8. We also have a migration utility available to convert from the EMCMF format to the new .msg format.
While Webtop 6.8 interoperability issues were resolved for RPS and PRS in their January 2015 patches newsletter (P07), customers who run Records Manager (RM) are advised NOT to upgrade yet. Please refere to KnowledgeBase Article 195164 , which will be refreshed with the latest detailed information and guidance about this issue.
